Ava - 4 months

SLEEP: She still goes to bed around the time we do and wakes up when we do but her morning nap is now pretty solid. She's been going down pretty regularly between 10 and 10:30 and sleeps for about 2.5 hours!
(Love these two together)
SOCIAL: We've got a little talker on our hands! She coos and babbles and has also started screeching a bit which is...so fun. Especially in church ha. She especially loves to look at babies and kids. They will always put a smile on her face, even when she's crying - which is not always the case with adults.

She's also been pursing her lips like this and blowing bubbles, it's hilarious and I love it!

DEVELOPMENT: At her check up yesterday she weighed in at 12 lbs 14 oz, 25-50%; 24.5 in long, 50%; 16.5 in head, 50%. She's grabbing things and putting them in her mouth. She also bends her legs and lifts them up high which makes me think she might be toe grabbing soon! I love the toe grabbing :) I do need to do tummy time with her more so she can start exercising the muscles to roll over.  The doctor also confirmed he could see/feel that there are some teeth at the bottom ready to make their entrance soon!  She's been a slobbery mess, so no surprise.
EATING:  The doctor talked me through a way to start solid foods with her and gave the approval to start whenever we want to.   I don't think I want to just yet because nursing seems easier to me right now than high chair/baby food mess.  And I've never seen the point in starting with rice cereal because it doesn't seem to have any nutrients, etc. but I guess it is the safest consistency and a good grain to start with to make sure she's not allergic and move from there.  She doesn't like liquids being put into her mouth (except for milk, from me) like medicine, etc so my mom gave me the idea to just let her put her fingers in the rice cereal and let her lick it off because her fingers are ALWAYS in her mouth :)  I'll probably give that a try!

  1. I agree with you about solid foods... don't start until you are ready to double the time it takes to feed her :) I skipped all cereals with Helena and Juno and they were fine. Also, making your own baby food is so easy and so cheap and SO much better for them! She's a cutie!!

  2. She really does look so much chunkier in her four month picture! She's growing up too fast! Haha. She is such a cute, fun baby!

  4. She is so cute!! Sorry she's a screecher :) All my kids are screechers and every one is screechier than the last. I'm crossing my fingers for you that she'll grow out of it soon and the future Clavin babies won't inherit that trait! And I agree with the first comment--no matter what docs say, start solids when you're ready! I always wait til they can sit up. And yeah, cereals are just filler foods so have fun experimenting! You can water anything down with breastmilk if it's too thick. Before you know it, she'll be eating all by herself and that is THE BEST.

    1. Haha, well she's not as screechy as some I know and I'm not even sure I could call her a "screecher" yet because it's not very consistent but the few times I've heard it have made me wonder...I'm going to do everything I can to keep it from happening haha
