THANKSGIVING 2011

Annnddd.....we're back!  This Thanksgiving was a much-needed break from school, work, our tiny basement apartment with little food in the fridge, being by ourselves, etc.

We were able to get away from Provo and spent the weekend in a cabin at Brian Head ski resort near Cedar City with almost the entire Dedrickson side of the family.  We don't get to see all of them as often, so that was a blast!

We started out Thanksgiving day by going sledding!  Ivy and I built snowmen while the boys tried to see how many they could pile on one tube/sled. Then Neil drug us behind the truck a couple times - I love the faces in these pictures:

Good thing we went, because we needed something to burn off all the PIES we were about to eat!

That's right, we had a total of 25 pies!  

I'm pretty sure we also had 2 hams and 3 turkeys (one of which didn't even get carved into on Thanksgiving!) That's what happens when you have Thanksgiving dinner with 30-40 people and all sign up to bring food.  But you know what else happens? 

You have turkey sandwiches and all kinds of leftovers for DAYS which is my FAVORITE. 

Have I mentioned that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday? Officially. The weather is usually still pretty bearable, and no stress about presents - just cooking, which I love - and eating, which I love - and enjoying time with family, which I love.

Devin's grandma turned 75 on Thanksgiving, which was mostly the reason we all got together.  Between dinner and eating pie, we all gathered in the basement to share our favorite memories of her and how she's touched our lives.  I think the most frequent thing shared was that the way she lives and serves is an example to those around her that she has an unfailing testimony of Jesus Christ. She is an incredible woman and it was so evident as her children and their wonderful families sat together to express their gratitude.

WHITE (black) FRIDAY

I love black friday shopping but I didn't have anything special that I wanted this year AND we were about an hour and a half from any good shopping so that didn't happen. Instead we went snowboarding/skiing!

Devin switched from snowboarding to skiing halfway through the day and may never go back. He started out skiing when he was little but has been boarding for a long time and now that comfort on the knees is a big factor, it was time for a switch.  My favorite part of the day: Devin comes skiing down past me yelling "I'm a NATURAL!"

...and we're (I'm) still sore from it, but it was SO worth it. 

The last day there was pure enjoyment. The boys went shooting and Marissa and I went down to Parowan to see if they had any fun shops to go to. There were about as many as you'd think would be in a town called Parowan but we hit the jackpot with the one we found.

Marissa about died when she saw that bucket of POGS.  This little "Gadgets and Goodies" shop had all kinds of fun things from back in the day.  They had tons of scrabble tiles, monopoly tokens, an old railroad lantern/spotlight, and tons more.  I got the new Pride & Prejudice DVD for 3 bucks :)

We decided to take one last drive around Brian Head and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

We've felt so blessed this holiday season.  These last two weeks of school are going to be r o u g h but Christmas is just around the corner and we can't wait!
